Tropical Underground: The Brazilian Cinema Marginal and the Revolution of Cinema
Cinema of the Deutsches Filmmuseum, Schaumainkai 41, Frankfurt
 October 2017 - July 2018
Even more cutting edge than the New Wave was the Brazilian Cinema Marginal of the 1960s and 1970s: An Explosion of Invention at the intersection of underground and genre cinema, triggered by the heavy-handed cultural policy and the politics of the military dictatorship, connected to the Tropicália movement in music and a visionary response to globalization. The Lecture & Film series “Tropical Underground: The Brazilian Cinema Marginal and the Revolution of Cinema” brings together film historians, curators, directors and actors to present the key works of one of the most significant and exciting countercultural cinemas of the 20th century.
