June 22, 2018 20:00 h

The painter, sculptor and performance artist Hélio Oiticica (1937-1980) is increasingly recognized as the most important Brazilian artists of the second half of the 20th century. A major influence on the musical movement launched by Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and others in 1968 under the title of “Tropicália”, a reference to one of Oiticica’s works, as well as an inspiration for anthropologists such as Eduardo Viveiros de Castro and for the filmmakers of the Cinema Marginal, Oiticica left a body of film works of his own, mostly consisting of experimental Super-8 films from the 1970s. A selection of these films will be shown at saasfee*pavillon presented by César Oiticica Filho and Irene Small (Princeton), a leading specialist on the work of Oiticica.
